Beating stress

Most Bangladeshis struggle through stressful weekdays, being forced to spend hours in traffic congestion, spending more time at work followed by household and other personal and necessary chores.
The resultant stress is affecting most people, manifesting into the form of severe diseases, most of which can be fatal.
New Age Xtra had asked its readers what procedures can be followed to relieve stress.

People usually feel stressed when they cannot do things that they cherish. I believe, to get relief from this stress, people should engage in their favourite activities like touring, singing, writing, watching films or theatre play or meeting friends during their weekends.

Firstly, we have to accomplish all our daily jobs timely so that these tasks cannot cause pressure at the end of the day. If we maintain our work schedule properly, there will be no stress. Secondly, meditation, exercise as well as prayers can be a fresh impetus to relieve stress. Besides sound sleep, reading, listening to music would also be other effective ways.

We need to follow some techniques to combat stress that we face in our daily life. Besides doing all regular duties, we should keep some quality time for ourselves. Reading a good book instead of watching TV or browsing Internet is a better option to remove stress. Face-to-face interaction with dear ones is another effective way that can be followed.

We live in a city where almost all components that can cause stress for people are present. When I feel stressed, I usually hang out with friends. For me, this is the most effective way to relieve stress. At the end of an office day, we usually meet at Dhanmondi lake, take coffee and have fun- this is really refreshing. I also watch movies and listen to songs to recharge myself.

Usually it takes two hours to reach home after work. So the day demands more of me than I am able to muster at the end of the day. Rather than becoming exhausted, I collect myself and start browsing the Internet or look for interesting videos over YouTube.

There are a few institutions that maintain certain rules and regulations regarding working ethics, though they seldom apply these. If employers ensure healthy working environment, it will help the professionals to be comfortable in the working place. And also, as professionals, we need to understand that personal work, family responsibility and socialisation is necessary, but at the same time, a proper sense of preference is also required. In that case, a proper routine, with proper decisions about what to do with the time after getting out of the office can help us.
