Netflix in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is among 130 countries across the world where Netflix, the online entertainment service, went live from last week. Earlier, the website, which streams content like original TV series, documentaries, movies etc. were open for North America and some parts of Europe only.
New Age Xtra had asked its readers whether they are planning to subscribe to the various Netflix plans. Also, some of them shared about other issues which are holding them back.

Netflix coming to Bangladesh is a great sign but I am not willing to subscribe to Netflix just yet. The payment is the first problem as its complicated paying for the subscription. The internet speed in Bangladesh is also not good enough to enjoy loss0less streaming and there are other portals available which can be used to access TV shows/movies in Bangladesh which are not as cost prohibitive.

I am definitely going to sign up. I had it in the US and loved it. The only thing holding me back is that I can get most of the content for free but I’d rather pay for it and be above the board. The other limitation is that I don’t have a Smart TV, but my chrome cast will do till I get one.

It’s amazing that Netflix is finally here but I’ll hold back from subscription because:
1. Speed (or lack of) of the internet
2. Availability of shows/movies on other portals
I’ll probably wait out the teething problems and make a decision once operations become smooth.

The arrival of Netflix certainly brings a lot of promise to our country. But I am not very excited. Firstly, you need a superb and stable internet connection which I won’t always get. Secondly, shows like ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘30 Rock’, which are my favourites, are not available on Netflix. Lastly, being a basic user won’t let me view some Netflix exclusive movies. But if I am asked to share an account, I’ll certainly sign up for it. I am not a one series person and the wide variety of shows in it is certainly lucrative enough for a shared basic account.

Definitely Netflix is a revolution in terms of content and service in the world of entertainment especially for TV series. Being an exclusive service on the internet makes it more approachable and they have forced other competitors to improve their content as well. Shows like ‘Daredevil’, ‘Sense8’, ‘Making A Murderer’ are proof that content is king and I’d definitely like to subscribe to the services of Netflix. But the poor & pricey internet services in Bangladesh are holding me back. Also a user-friendly way to pay in terms of Bangladeshi perspective may work as an advantage for Netflix in Bangladesh.

Why would you spend money on something if you get it for free? You can find literally anything on torrent unlike Netflix. Now, we have the service of Plex – which is a free video streaming app for your Smart TV to watch videos directly from your FTP sites…

Though I am a fan of TV series from CW and other networks, at this moment I am not in a financial condition to pay extra amount of money for Netflix! Here are the reasons for it:
1. I will have to own a smart TV,
2. I have to pay a handsome amount of money for subscription,
3. I have Torrent, which costs me nothing to enjoy my desired TV series.

But in future I will definitely switch to Netflix when I will be in better financial standing.

I don’t want to pay for it when I can download for free. Also my internet isn’t adequate for streaming. However the quality and large collection of shows and movies is tempting, if they are offering the same collection as USA.
