021The people of Dhaka experienced the ugly consequences of unplanned urbanisation when rainwater inundated almost all the streets on September 1. The traffic movement virtually came to a standstill leaving the city dwellers facing unbearable sufferings on the roads. The office-goers could not reach office timely and many students failed to attend their exams. Rainwater also flowed into houses and other establishments in low-lying areas. Poor drainage system and filling up of water bodies are some of the reasons that can be blamed for such an unprecedented urban disaster.
